Sound, space and interaction - Assignment
You’re supposed to make an interactive environment, which communicates, to the audience/participant/user purely through sound. You have to develop a communicating sonic language.
Part of the environment is the interface through which the participant can express himself. This interface can be sound based. (loudness, pitch, speech/timbre analysis). However it can also be based on another interface (sensors, keyboard, mouse etc.). The participant should be able to navigate a space or environment and get feedback or information back from the environment through sound.
The environment should change according to designed rules of interactivity. This means that the participant can change the environment by performing different actions.
Description
The idea behind Audio Pacman is to make a computer game that can be played by listening to the sound of the game only. The game I choose was based on Pacman. The goal is to find the way out in a 2D space. The way out can be on the left or on the right and on any height. At the start of the game a ‘ping’ sound with a certain pitch and panorama gives a clue where the way out is, and during the game the ping can be triggered to find it.
There are several levels in the game. In the higher levels there will be obstacles and ghosts that will make it more difficult to find your way. When a ghost gets you you’ll loose a life. You have only three life’s.
